Gallbladder Surgery in Lucknow
Gallstones are one of the most common reasons for abdominal surgery — and when they cause pain or complications, removing the gallbladder is a safe, definitive cure. Dr Sandeep Kumar Verma performs laparoscopic gallbladder surgery in Lucknow as a refined keyhole procedure.
Most patients go home the same day or the next morning and are back to routine activity within a week.
In short
Gallbladder surgery in Lucknow is performed by Dr Sandeep Kumar Verma at Medanta, Lucknow. He performs laparoscopic (keyhole) gallbladder removal for gallstones, cholecystitis and gallbladder polyps, as well as surgery for gallbladder cancer and bile-duct stones — most patients go home within a day after routine keyhole removal.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
The gallbladder is removed through three or four small incisions using a high-definition laparoscope. Because the cuts are tiny, there is far less pain than open surgery, minimal scarring and a much faster recovery.
Dr Verma also manages complex gallbladder disease — acute cholecystitis, empyema, large or impacted stones, and stones that have slipped into the bile duct — safely, with intra-operative imaging when needed.
When is surgery needed?
Gallstones that cause biliary colic (pain), inflammation (cholecystitis), jaundice or pancreatitis should be treated. Surgery is the only reliable cure — medicines and diet cannot dissolve stones predictably or prevent recurrence.
Living without a gallbladder
The gallbladder only stores bile; the liver continues to produce it normally. After removal, the vast majority of people digest food perfectly well and can eat a normal diet, with no long-term restrictions.

Gallbladder Surgery: common questions
Is laparoscopic gallbladder surgery painful?
Discomfort is mild and well controlled with simple painkillers. Because the incisions are tiny, most patients are walking the same day and back to desk work within a few days.
Can gallstones be removed without removing the gallbladder?
Unfortunately not reliably. A gallbladder that forms stones will keep forming them, so removing the stones alone leads to recurrence. Removing the whole gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is the definitive, lasting cure.
Will I need a special diet after surgery?
No long-term special diet is needed. We suggest lighter, lower-fat meals for the first week or two, after which almost everyone returns to a completely normal diet.
